Ambachtsherenhuis
Information centre
The information centre aims to present the history of Oud-Vossemeer, the ambachtsheerlijkheid and the connection with the Roosevelt family in a manner that is accessible to the public, by way of a small exhibition.
In different areas attention is paid to the history of Oud-Vossemeer, the ambachtsheerlijkheid, the origin and family-trees of the American and Dutch Roosevelt families, and finally to the three most important members of the American branch: Franklin Delano, Theodore and Eleanor. The exhibitions are located in the Ambachtsherenhuis: the former court and municipality building of Oud-Vossemeer, which was built in the period from 1767-1768 by the lords of the ambachtsheerlijkheid. Around that time mr. Johan Willem van Rosevelt was one of the lords and therefore, the coat-of-arms of the Dutch Van Rosevelt family can be found over the fireplace in the ambachtsherenhuis.
